Mountain Top Reminders

Daily we were given glimpses of God's majesty, even in His fallen creation.  From the tiny flowers, to the huge cypress, to the perfectly adapted mountain goats, God's glory and design were evident in everything around us.  One of the most obvious reminders were the mountains on every side of us.  They reminded us of verses about being hidden by God in the cleft of the mountain and the mountain of God.  These huge mountains just couldn't be contained in photos.  One of the verses that Dad was reminded of while we were there was from Psalm 121.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.  He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber.  Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.  The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade on thy right hand.  The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.  The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul.  The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth and even forever more.  ~ Psalm 121
Pretty appropriate, huh?  We thought so too.  It was especially appropriate when reflecting on all the unseen provisions of the Lord along the way of our vacation.  No one fell off a cliff, our hand-me-down van made it successfully out there and back with only one minor breakdown, we were all safe on the raft trip, no one had any serious strains or injuries on their hikes, no altitude sickness or food poisoning... the list could go on and on!  Not only this but we had beautiful weather and timing for all of our adventures.  Truly, the Lord was our help and guard on this getaway and what a wonderful reminder the mountains were of that fact!

  1. Diana,

I loved hearing of your trip and seeing your pictures! You all are blessed to have made these trips. I have never ventured that far west. I'd love to know what all was going through Alex's mind--so many "firsts" for him.
